The Rich, The Mega-Rich…And Then There’s the Rest Of Us.

What’s wrong with this picture?

Head fast to Mother Jones, right now. When you’ve gotten a look at these figures, and the truly vast sums of money held by the top 1/10 of 1% in our nation, come back and tell me if it seems like a healthy situation for our nation.

Especially look for the graph that includes these percentages:

UP 720%          UP 120%        DOWN 35%

It ain’t pretty, folks! I felt SHOCK, DISBELIEF, and HORROR, because I’m amazed this is allowed to continue.

Here it is: Eight charts that explain everything that’s wrong with America.

Never mind — I got to the charts via the Mother Jones links. And I’m sorry I did! Not really. But it sure was a bucketful of ice water in the face. Good grief!

Never mind the Middle East. Why the heck aren’t we taking to the streets to protest the economic repression and discrimination right here in the good old US of A?

    • I double-checked to be sure, and the link HAD gone bad. Wish I understood that kind of thing better. Fixed now.

I think, this weekend, we may well SEE people taking to the streets. It sounds like it’s going to be QUITE a weekend! I hope it pans out. I’d love to see Americans get mad about this stuff.

Thanks a million for coming by…So glad to meet you! :)

I’m having trouble accessing the charts, Paula. Could you double check that link?

Love, love, love the name of your blog. I’m 60 and can NOT figure out when the heck that happened. I told someone the other day that I had ridden the I’m a late bloomer horse just about as far as it could go, that it might be time to hop off and — well — bloom! :)

    • How funny! Nope, I don’t recall how I got here. It’s a mystery. Just went to sleep one night, woke up and was toward the end of middle age!

Thanks for coming by, and I’m glad the link finally worked out. I’ve checked them, but they seem to be okay now. Thanks for coming by! :)

  3. This one calls for a double dose of anti-depressant medication.

My income would be considered below poverty level. And Mother Jones just reaffirmed that fact. Kinda sad state of affairs, don’t ya think, Paula? Not to sing the blues but … I’ve been working my butt off for a total of four decades in the workforce and Uncle Sam has been raking in 42+ cents of every dollar I earn. Anybody but me see something wrong with this picture? And working three part time jobs, simultaneously, is barely paying the rent.

Boy, I could hardly stomach looking at some of the charts and graphs on that page. Pretty astonishing stuff.

    On a happy note …

The times they are a changin’. For those of us that put our noses to the entrepreneurial grindstone, hope abounds.

    • No kidding! But the question is, can we AFFORD the antidepressants, now that we know how poor we are?!

Something IS rotten in the state of Denmark, my friend, and Denmark is now HERE, in America.

I hope something is changing. I hope I can climb that entrepreneurial hill. I pray that somehow or another people like us survive this nightmare. Yep, those charts are Pretty. Damn. Sickening!
